James C. Hannon, Ph.D., began his appointment as Interim Dean and Chief Administrative Officer of Kent State Salem and Kent State Stark on July 1, 2025. Previously he served as the dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Services at Æðµã´«Ã½ since July 2017. 

Prior to coming to Kent State, he was a professor and assistant dean for Academic Affairs and Research at West Virginia University in the College of Physical Activity & Sport Science; and served as faculty holding various roles including sport pedagogy program director, director of graduate studies, and exercise and sport science department chair in the College of Health at the University of Utah. 

He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed journal articles, secured federal, state, and foundations funding to support students and research, and has presented his research at many international, national, regional and local conferences. He is a Fellow of the research council of Shape America and of the National Academy of Kinesiology. He completed Harvard University's Institute for Management and Leadership in Education program. In addition, he has extensive experience in strategic planning, budgetary management, and program innovations. He served as Chair or Co-chair of the Ohio State University Education Deans group for the past 4 years and is the current past-president of the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education.
